Nashville Welcomes FIFA Officials Ahead of World Cup Host Decision

Exclusive Interview with Colin Smith, Chief Competitions & Events Officer at FIFA

Nashville, TN — FIFA officials made Music City their latest stop on a nationwide tour Wednesday as they evaluate candidates to serve as hosts for the 2026 World Cup. With a growing resume as a premier event host, Nashville is vying for a spot at the center of the footballing world alongside peers like Boston, Atlanta, Orlando, and Baltimore (not to mention New York, DC, and Miami).

In an exclusive interview with Fútbol en la Piel, Colin Smith (Chief Competitions & Events Officer at FIFA) explained how Nashville stacks up on the very pitch that could see top talents ply their trade in five years’ time. «We’ve worked with Nashville for the past couple of years. We’ve had to do it remotely, unfortunately, on Zoom,» Smith said. «But the passion and enthusiasm has always come across through the screen, and we’ve been witness to that today, live.»

The FIFA delegation will continue to visit cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico and is expected to release the final list of hosts for the jointly held World Cup by Q2 2022. Let’s go Music City!
